Letter : Hong Kong, to Stilson Hutchins, 1879 June 29 [manuscript].

Letter to Hutchins, then editor of the Washington Post, is in Mosby's hand on stationery with the United States consulate letterhead but marked "private." Written while Mosby served as United States Consul in Hong Kong, the letter briefly mentions General Grant's visit and promises an article for the Washington Post. Mosby then gives an account of American diplomatic corruption in China which he has uncovered. He singles out U.S. minister George Frederick Seward as the chief criminal, defends his own reputation, and deplores the inaction of Congress.
